In our experience of running a video production house, we’ve realized that good work can come from anywhere, as long as good intentions exist. One such instance is the work we found from IndiaMart. In the initial stages of French Fries Films, we listed our services everywhere, hoping to be discovered, but we soon realized that IndiaMart was not an ideal platform for us. But as luck would have it, Divya, the co-founder of BloomBugg, found our listing just a few days before we de-registered. While there was initial reservation about working with the company because of the route they had come through and our experience, we were hooked once Divya started to tell us about her app and vision!

BloomBugg is an app which lets you calculate your carbon footprint and helps you live a net-zero lifestyle and bloom. And in our book, anything planet positive is a winner!

 

Storytelling on a budget

One of the challenges that came with Divya’s request, which we often face, is that the company was bootstrapped, and the cost was going to be an issue. The initial budget didn’t work for the BloomBugg team. But because of their idea and conviction, we, too, were ready to bloom. So, we went back to the drawing board and solved this issue in the same manner we always do, but understanding what it is that we can do for the brand most efficiently and cost-effectively possible, in a budget that is a win-win for both parties. To our delight, the BloomBugg founders saw our commitment to telling their story effectively and decided to take a leap of faith.

 

As a beautiful story once taught us, ‘With great power comes great responsibility’

Working with a start-up, bootstrapped co. or a small business almost always comes with the same challenge – Founders/Marketers not being sure about the budget/cost to make their 1st branded content. For a relatively new organization working with limited capital, it is always a task to figure out how much to spend on creating a piece of content. We believe that this is where our experience and expertise come into play. We work with the team to understand their larger objective. Here are a few questions we always ask our clients –

What is it that they want to communicate through this brand video?

Target Group they want to communicate to?

Do they have a brand guideline for us to follow?

Where will this video be used, distribution plan?

Once we have the answers to these questions, it makes it a lot easier to create something meaningful, impactful and valuable, irrespective of the kind, duration or budget of the video. 


Choosing brand message over trending video duration

Once we had the brief right, we got to work with the BloomBugg team to create a video showcasing everything their app could do. It didn’t matter if the video was 60 seconds, 90 seconds or even a few minutes long; what was important was that the message of living a net-zero lifestyle was loud and clear and was brought out by the prompts on the app. We wanted the consumer to know that BloomBugg was there to support them on their net zero journeys. Working with the team, we shortlisted the top 5-6 actions that could be highlighted through the video so that users could engage with and start building a carbon-neutral lifestyle. We wrote the script with these inputs in mind, and in collaboration with the BloomBugg team, we fine-tuned it, and we were good to go! Our mission was to showcase the true essence of the app, which is ‘If you believe you can bloom.’

 This brand video was created for awareness, and the call to action was to download the app and bloom.

The day of the shoot was the Hottest in Delhi in 18 years! Thankfully the fantastic preparation by the production unit and the motivation we got from the mission of BloomBugg kept us going. As luck would have it, we had a first-hand experience of the impact of climate change while working on this production.

 

Why small businesses should use video marketing

We pulled off the video exactly as intended, and to our absolute delight, it outperformed the expectations of the BloomBugg team by getting over 5k downloads. More than just pulling off the film, we’re incredibly proud of being associated with a mission that we believe in deeply and have been able to present to the world.
